The SANAC Women’s Sector would like to express its grief and sorrow at the passing of one of its office bearers, Johanna Ncala, after a long illness. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends at this difficult time.
Johanna served on the SANAC Civil Society Forum representing the SANAC Women’s Sector leadership for a number of years and was responsible for supporting Mpumalanga & Gauteng provinces. As medical technologist, human rights activist and a woman living with HIV and cancer, Johanna’s expertise on HIV and AIDS treatment literacy, gender, community processes and training and facilitation will be missed by her fellow office bearers.
She worked for the Treatment Action Campaign where she led projects, held various leadership positions and interacted with a range of social and political stakeholders. Johanna participated in the development of treatment literacy materials and led treatment literacy programmes in Lesotho, Mozambique, Botswana, Angola, Zambia and Malawi. Johanna was involved in the Marikana Women’s Initiative and was the Founder and Director of Mohau oa Bophelo, an NGO that specialises in building sustainable HIV/AIDS woman support groups within the Lesedi Local Municipality.
May she rest in peace. Lala ngoxolo. Robala ka khotso.
